NEW YORK (Billboard) - In typical fashion, rock act A Perfect Circle put a unique stamp on Tuesday's launch party for its new DVD, "Lost in the Bermuda Triangle," which debuts at No. 8 on the Billboard Top Music Videos chart this week.
The screening showed little beyond the video of the Virgin act's latest single, "The Outsider," and cartoon material that lampooned the Home Shopping Network. But there was still plenty to see.
Drummer Josh Freese and guitarists Billy Howerdel and James Iha arrived at the Coral Room in New York dressed in furry bear costumes with masks that covered their heads. Bassist Jeordie Osbourne White opted for a Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer ensemble. …

Smashing through rock's circle
By Jeff Spevak
It's not that James Iha is a tough guy to talk to. In fact, he seems friendly and relaxed. But Iha has this unnreving way of turning your questions upside-down, like a zoologist flipping over a really ugly-looking roach so that he can examine its reproductive organs. Not salaciously, but in a professional way.
The question is: What's more real, Iha's old band, the Smashing Pumpkins, or his new band, A Perfect Circle?
"The theory would be that if something's more organic, it would be more true," says the guitarist. The Pumpkins would be organic in this equatio, since it grew out of the Chicago clubs into…

Auf Der Maur May Revive Supergroup With Iha, Adams, Dando
Friday April 30, 2004 @ 04:30 PM
By: ChartAttack.com Staff
Melissa Auf Der Maur
Melissa Auf Der Maur may have a solo record bubbling up for release shortly, but she's already got her eyes on her next project.
The Montreal bassist-to-the-alternative-stars says The Fucking Virgins, her space rock project with James Iha, Ryan Adams and Evan Dando, just may see the light of day.
"I hope to do it," says Auf Der Maur. "I’ll probably have to be the ring leader to bring us together and do it at some point."
Of course, it's not like Auf Der Maur has had trouble summoning people to work on other projects with her. The former Hole/Smashing Pumpkins player had Iha, Nick Oliveri…

"She has shown a love of collaboration and that looks set to continue. Projects in the pipeline are a full album with Mark Lanegan, another record with experimental Scottish jazz musician Bill Wells, some form of recording with James Iha, formerly of the Smashing Pumpkins, and there’s even talk of her doing a folk record."

Their work has led somewhere. In late 2003 the band signed to New Line Records' Scratchie imprint, a label run in part by James Iha of the Smashing Pumpkins.
"James and I started hanging around, and talking about video games and records, Nico records."
Ben's thought is that the original idea was for the Robbers to use Scratchie's label, but it didn't take long for more ambitious plans to foment.

"Fly Away mixed in James Iha's studio Stratosphere. James Iha plays theremin on the track. The singel has been very well recived with extensive playing on national radio and heavy rotation on local and student radios. Fly Away will also appear on a compilation-cd from Øya-festivalen, Norways leading indie-festival, that will be distributed in 25 000 ex."

Former Pumpkins guitarist helps shape A Perfect Circle
By TIMOTHY FINN
The Kansas City Star
James Iha was in a pretty contented place in June 2003 when he got an e-mail that looked suspiciously like just another slice of spam. Instead it was a rare, prime opportunity: “Do you want to join and go on tour for a year?” it said.
At the time Iha (rhymes with “yee-ha”) was traveling across Europe, taking a break from his label, Scratchie Records (home of the Sounds), and contemplating the next phase of his career, which had included 12 years as a guitarist with the now-defunct Smashing Pumpkins. Iha figured another band was in his future eventually, but beyond that he wasn't sure of…

James Iha knows a thing or two about bands with enigmatic, visionary rock singers who like to shave their heads and sing about dark things.
As the guitarist for Smashing Pumpkins for 12 years, he hung back in the shadows while Billy Corgan stood out front connecting with millions of disenchanted youths.
Now, Iha is doing the same thing in A Perfect Circle, the unintentional supergroup he joined over the summer, shortly before the art-metal band issued its second album, "Thirteenth Step."
