The last piece of the guitar puzzle came after the recording process, prior to the band's first tour. James Iha, once the texture king of Billy Corgan's Smashing Pumpkins, ditched his job as a producer and joined the band against his will--sort of. "Before this invitation, I [decided] that I would never be in a band like the Pumpkins again," he says. "I thought I'd be producing and doing behind-the-scenes stuff from here on. I recently told a friend that it would have to be a really cool band to get me back into a situation like that. And this was that band." |
