October 24, 2003, 12:40-1ish pm First off, thanks to Jasmine Vega (Virgin Records Rep) for making this all happen! I got connected with her and then she connected me with James. I?m so upset that my recorder got screwed. I learned that you cannot record a cell phone call up close. So, I?m going to write down a summary of what was said. James Iha ditched us the first day the interview over the phone was set up, so I waited the next day to interview him. James is preparing for his next tour with A Perfect Circle by taking his vitamins, eating vegetables and drinking orange juice. He has not come up with anything for his next album. It will probably sound less acoustic but more electronic (?). He says he?s writing. And hasn?t decided when it will come out. But it will come. Vanessa and the O?s was started up with the help of his friend Nicholas Frisk. He loves how New York does not require a car. But he doesn?t know how New York affects him musically. Bugg is alive and well. But he?s very old. James doesn?t know how old Bugg is but he?s guessing around 12 years of age. The Vapor line is doing well. He had an old room mate who had connections to the clothesline in Japan and wanted to James to join him with this venture. Melissa Auf Der Maur is doing well. He has done some work on her solo album. He knows that The Sounds have not sold too well in America but he loves the band. He felt that they haven?t sold ?millions.? He performed the sax twice with them before. Darcy is doing well. She?s kinda not in the music industry. She?s not involved with Scratchie. It?s just James and Adam (and a third guy). There is a new act for Scratchie. I honestly could not pick up what he said (my first day as a interviewer!). He began acting kinda giggly/silly/sarcastic when I told him about Kendra being his biggest fan and wanting say hi. At the same time, I could hear him acting crazy in the background in his room. When I brought up if he was single, he gave me a big sigh of relief that he is. Embarrassingly (and jokingly) enough, he started asking if I?m single in a very seductive voice. I just had to crack up with a big laugh! He can?t think of what to ask the online community. James says he?s 5?9?. He wants to see jamesiha.org and asked me a couple of times where it is. He won?t give away his e-mail (In an apologetic voice ?umm? I?m not allowed to give you my e-mail). He says he has an email, a cell phone. He doesn?t talk to Billy Corgan. The band, A Perfect Circle, gets along. He was laughing when I asked about Jeordie White being makeupless. He actually admitted not recognizing Jeordie White! He has no idea how he is going to contribute to A Perfect Circle?s future album. When I asked him if he saw he any show like Simon and Garfunkel he chuckled and made a ?what are you talking about? sound. He has seen Hot Hot Heat plus the The Strokes (in La). He has nothing to do with The White Stripes. He goes out and eats in New York a lot. There are too many places to go to in New York. He mentioned that A Perfect Circle was on Mtv, not TRL. He feels that his obsessed (online) fans flatter him. I told him I?m gonna see Anna Sui today so I asked him what he would like me to say to her, he said just ?Yo?. He feels he?s too old to model for Anna Sui (?I?m tooo old?) so he?s not going to do it anymore. I tried to lift this spirits during the last minute, ?No, you?re very young inside.?
