Dave's Top 10 Most memorable interviews of 2004 By David Friedman NEWS-TIMES MUSIC WRITER Newstimslive.com 7. Auf der Maur She's played in Hole and the Smashing Pumpkins, but bassist Melissa Auf der Maur is even better singing lead vocals in her new band, Auf der Maur. The music is hypnotic and my favorite songs include "Followed The Waves," "Real A Lie" and "I Need I Want I Will." I interviewed Auf der Maur prior to her June 1 show at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. This was a highlight for me because Auf der Maur is a legitimate rock star from the '90s alternative music scene ? up there with Billy Corgan, Courtney Love, Eddie Vedder and Kurt Cobain. Plus, she's both sharp and intriguing. I learned everything I ever wanted to know about her career dating back to her days in the Montreal band Tinker. In the concerts I saw her play ? one at the Hammerstein and one two weeks later at the Mercury Lounge ? she and her band were masters on stage. They even played a cover of Failure's "Sergeant Politeness." When I met Auf der Maur, she remembered me from the interview and was just as cool in person. I even got to meet her former Smashing Pumpkins band mate, James Iha, although he wasn't up for talking much. Source: NewsTimeLIVE |
