Abstract (Document Summary)

As the Smashing Pumpkins were becoming superstars, a rumor dogged the band. It was said that they were breaking up because leader Billy Corgan writes, sings and plays most of the instruments on record. That never happened, but guitarist James Iha has decided to pursue a solo project.
